The family will live in the rainforest for a year, where the Spirit Bear, a rare white bear, resides. Although Sadie initially hates the isolation, she becomes fascinated by her father's work and accepts her temporary fate, especially when their handsome guide Riverty provides much-needed distraction. Animals and nature are struggling to survive. When Sadie meets a young man named Tarqeq, who claims to have been summoned by the Moon God to help protect the animals in the rainforest, her life changes. Tarqeq possesses the power of the moon and promptly passes his gift onto Sadie, allowing her to help him in turn. While Sadie learns to use her powers to create a unique bond with all life in the Great Bear Rainforest, people start dying, seemingly at the cause of a wild animal.
