\"The Horror at Red Hook\" is a 1925 short story by American writer H. P. Lovecraft. Detective Malone recounts his involvement with the case of Robert Suydam, a shabby recluse who seems to have miraculously turned his life around at the same time as a spate of local kidnappings.
